Make it Easier for Kids to Learn How to Type

In today’s day and age, kids are typing more than ever before. It’s important that they learn how to type quickly and effectively. The QWERTY keyboard is used on laptops, desktops, and even on smartphones. Those who can type faster will find it easier to succeed.

Use Instruction Covers
It’s easy to learn how to type if you are constantly looking at the letters. However, this is when you often develop the “hunt and peck” process. The idea is for kids to learn where the keys are based on feel as well as properly placed fingers. Using instructional covers will hide the letters on the keyboard so that kids can still type without looking at the letters. Even if they do look down, they won’t see what letters they are typing until they look at the screen.

Embrace Typing Software
Ultrakey is one of the top software programs used for typing. It can be used for students of all ages. Additionally, there are North American, UK, and Australia/New Zealand additions. When you look for typing software, you want to make sure that it is easy for kids to learn. Plus, you want to make sure that they are learning how to type without having to look at the keys. Further, you want kids to be able to set their own typing goal and, then, proceed at a pace that is comfortable for them.

Practice
Kids should be practicing on a regular basis. This includes using instructional covers as well as typing software. Even if a kid is taking a class at school, they should still be practicing on a keyboard at home. This will make it easier for them to identify where the keys are, even without looking. As they practice, their words per minute rate will likely increase.

A combination of tools can be used to make it easier for kids to learn how to type. Speedy typing is a skill that can be used regardless of what industry they choose to go into.
